The Sliding Pinion, Pendant Tube and Winding Pinion...

These three parts may seem pretty innocuous, but the correct lubrication of both pinions (the silver bits) is essential for the smooth functioning of the watch.

I have cleaned the large bits of dirt (mostly congeled grease) from the parts and cleaned them in an ultrasonic tank. I'm going to do the same again a couple of times, before I oil the back of the winding pinion (the bigger of the two silver parts) with MR4 grease - it's thicker and easier to manipulate than the commonly used HP1300 oil, and it's translucency means it is more asthetically pleasing than the thicker Molicote, as prefered by some companies such as Breitling.

The pendant tube needed only a quick clean. I'm not going to lubricate the visible surfaces, but it will be hidden from view entirely so it shouldn't interupt the appearance of the finished product.
